Advice please on a bumper respray (2025)

Hello all,
I have scuffed the side of the corner of my rear bumper and took it in for a quote.

He said that the bumper had moved, so did I want a bracket fixing. He said the respray would be £140....£200 with the bracket. He said he could try and fix the bumper without the bracket to save money. I also asked him about the other side of the rear bumper which seemed to be coming away (no relation to me scuffing the car or any other mishap).

He said he could do it for a total price of £200 (without the bracket).

Does this seem reasonable? I haven't got a clue.

Try getting a couple more quotes and maybe trying a smart repairer like Chipsaway. You have something to compare it to them.

I'm getting bumper sprayed on my car. To blow in one corner was going to be £150, to do the whole bumper was £200.

You can also use a £6.99 rattle can from Halfords; that's what I did on a scratched bumper, looks fine now; especially with a few mud splatters on it.

What car do you have? Year/model? also where abouts do you live?
If the car is a few years old, go onto ebay and search for your bumper. Bumpers on cars a few years old can be had for £50 or less, seriously. 6-8 bolts and that sucker is off and you can pop on the replacement one, or pay someone to help you with it. I found a Mokka bumper for £35 for a friend and it took about 45 minutes off and on.
I know a place in London that can sort out most scuffs for pennies. I damaged a rear wing and arch on a rental van a few months back and he sorted it out for £120 including respray, it looked as good as new. I recommended someone to go there the other day for bumper repair and he charged him £65 for correction and respray, top bloke!
Yes it was a backstreet garage but who cares really as long as the job gets done!

ebay bumpers are iffy, most are from write off/breaking cars which aren;t the best kept cars.
paint job, you usually get what you pay for. it might look fine to the untrained eye but the paint can come off after not being applied correctly or not be blended in well.
Experienced that myself, had moulding colour coded, looked brilliaint at first, but then the corner get scraped on a boulard, the factory painted bumper just got scuffed and the resprayed moulding completely flaked off in bits.

Cant it be done by one of those smart repair guys if its just a scuff , would be around £50-£70

Thanks for all of your replies, they are much appreciated.
The scuff/ scratches are quite deep. My car is black, and it's gone deep enough to show the white (if that makes sense)
I want it doing properly, but have no idea what these things cost.
The guy in question has a good reputation, and is always really busy... that should be a good sign! Hopefully!

Cheaper than the quotes I've had for my Mondeo to have it resprayed after lacquer peel.

Are you anywhere near the Maidenhead area? If you are I can recommend a really good body shop.
